Bhitarkanika Wildlife Sanctuary in the Orissa is probably the only one situated in the man grove forest. The park situated in the eastern India in in the Kendrapara District of Orissa state, was established with objective of conversation of endangered salt water Crocodile. Till the 1988 the area was not a national Park. Endangered saltwater crocodile of Bhitarkanika are unique in the sense that 10 percent of the adults have exceeding 6 meters length.
Bhitarkanika Wildlife Sanctuary is the natural home for large number of flora and fauna and hot favorite wildlife destination among the nature lovers. More than 50 migratory bird species from the central Asia and Europe nest into the mangrove area of the Bhitarkanika Wildlife sanctuary during the winter.
At the Gahirmatha coast, large number of Olive Ridley Sea Turtles laid their eggs and to protect this rich wildlife sanctuary is converted in to Bhitarkanika National Park in the year 1998.
