Takht Sri Keshgarh Sahib is the birthplace of Khalsa, the Saint & Soldier. This was the Baisakhi Day of 1699 when in a special congregation held on hill of Keshgarh Sahib, attended by thousands of Sikhs; Guru Sahib announced the establishment of Khalsa Panth. “Panj Pyaras” were the first one who were baptised by Guru Sahib Ji.
Takht Sri Keshgarh Sahib is among the five most holly pilgrimage destinations in India. Anandpur city in which Takht Sri Keshgarh or Gurudwara Keshgarh is situated, was constructed by ninth Sikh Guru, Guru Teg Bahadur Sahib Ji in the year 1664. This is the city where Guru Gobind Singh Ji have spend more than 25 years of life.
In the world tourism circuits Anandpur is renowned for the annually held “Hola Mohalla” celebration [usually in the month of March]. This is a traditional Sikh martial festival of the Khalsa, celebrated since the time of tenth Guru Sahib Ji. Actually this festival is extended or the reshaped form of most celebrated Indian festival Holi, the festival of colors. This was the desire of Guru Sahib that Holi, fun and frolic and colour splashing festival should be turned into display of the martial spirit of his people. This concept has been realized with tradition of celebrating Hola Mohalla.
