Moti Masjid, majestic pearl white Mosque, constructed from the marble is one of the spectacular prayer place associated with Islam. Moti Masjid is situated within the complex of Agra Fort, one of World Heritage Site of UNSECO.
Moti Masjid was constructed between the year 1648 and 1654 by the Famous Mughal Badshah Shah Jahan in the Agra fort for the worship [paying Namaj] by the members of the Royal family. Situated near to “Diwan – E – Aam” the prayer hall of the Moti Masjid is lying on the Western Side. Construction of the Masjid was lasted for four years with expenses of 60 thousand rupees. The name Moti Masjid is derived from the pear while marble used for the construction.
The main entrance gateways to Moti Masjid, situated on the eastern side are approachable by two staircases constructed from the red sandstone where as white marble is used to construct the interior. On the either side of the main prayer hall, separate prayer halls for women are there.
Twelve pillars and an arch surround the porch, where as Three domes crown the mosque. The western wall of the mosque has beautifully carved and inlaid mihrab and six niches corresponding to the arches of the façade.
