Golden Temple, Gurudwara constructed by Fifth Sukh Guru Sri Guru Arjundev Singh Ji is the most holly place fro followers of Sikhism and most visited Gurudwara of Punjab, India.

The history of construction of Golden temple starts with Guru Amar Das Ji. The Harmandir Sahib, this is how the Golden temple is known in the religious world of Sikhism, is the Gurudwara where In the August 1604, three years after the construction of Golden Temple,  ”Pothi Sahib” was installed and Baba Buddha Ji were appointed as the first Granthy by Sri Guru Arjundev Singh Ji.

The Harmandir Sahib or Golden Temple was rebuilt in 1764 by Jassa Singh Ahluwalia. Maharaja Ranjit Singh has covered the upper floors of The Harmandir Sahib with Gold during the early years of Nineteenth Century and Gurudwara become famous as the Golden Temple.

Main Gurudwara at Golden Temple premises is surrounded by a large lake or holy tank or the Sarovar and as per the faith is filled with Amrit [holly water - immortal nectar]   actually the city name Amritsar is derived from this.
