In the year 1983 UNSECO decided to include Taj Magal on the list of World Heritage Sites. The construction was started in the year 1632 soon after the death of Mumtaz Mahal at Burhanpur Madhya Pradesh in the year 1631 during the birth of her fourteenth child and he was buried there only at the Zainabad Garden on the bank of river Tapti. After a period of six months her body remains were transferred to Main tomb of Taj Mahal at Agra.
Taj Mahal, The mausoleum is situated on the bank of River Yamuna covering an area of 60 bighas of land. The main tomb of the monument is square with chamfered corners with red sandstone mosque on the west and Mehman-Khana [Guest House] on the east.
On the Friday Taj Mahal remains close for tourist visit where as on the other days it is open from the sunrise to sunset. Special arrangements are made for watching the Taj Mahal on night of Full Moon day [in all five days two days before & two days after]. Like the most of monuments maintained by The Archaeological Survey of India here also visitors have to pay entrance fee.
